Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Hounslow Methodist Church had a thriving live music project called Cafe Arts, inviting small professional and semi-professional Christian artists from around the country to perform in a series of concerts each year. This had to stop during the pandemic and since then we have only had a few concerts by the in-house band. This year we wanted to start changing that and we needed to look at the plan. Due to some hoped-for redevelopment work at the church, we only managed one external artist in addition to two band gigs; this should expand next year.
First up was the name; we have now established the band gigs as a regular feature, and they don’t particularly fit the original brief, so we considered a rebrand. In the end, we kept it simple and are now simply referring to it as ‘Live Music at Hounslow Methodist’. With the focus on the importance of live music, the effects of Brexit, and the cost of living crisis in the UK, it feels particularly prescient and will resonate with many people.
We needed two types of physical publicity: a poster and a flyer. The poster needs to fit standard notice boards and be printable for those we cannot send printed versions to and, therefore, need to follow standard paper sizes. We could be more creative with the flyers and decided to go with square flyers so they stand out amongst the standard A5 flyer that is common in churches. Most flyers in churches also tend to go for a white background for ease of printing, so we went for darker colours.
The content needed to contain the basic details of each content and a link to book tickets. We also included a few pictures from the last band gig to make it pop.
Closer to each event, a flyer will be produced providing more details to supplement the year-long one.
